Umax alternative

Umax is an iPhone app that rates your face from a selfie, with the results behind a subscription. Face Analysis Lab runs in your browser, keeps your face on your device and sells one report for $14.99, paid once. Here is how the two compare.

Everything here about Umax comes from its App Store listing, website, terms and privacy policy, read on 14 October 2026 and listed in the sources. Several apps use “Umax” in their names; this page is about the one umaxapp.com links to, “Umax - Become Hot” by Improvement Tech LLC. We make Face Analysis Lab, so weigh our side accordingly.

Who Umax is

Umax is made by Improvement Tech LLC, a company registered in Pennsylvania, according to its terms. The App Store listing says “Only for iPhone”, and also lists it as compatible with Macs with Apple silicon and with Apple Vision Pro. Its website links only to the App Store. The App Store age rating is 18+, and its terms ask you to confirm you are not a minor. When we checked, the latest version on the listing was 1.4.3, dated 28 June 2024.

What it offers

You take a selfie and the app returns an analysis of your face. The listing says Umax currently focuses on facial attractiveness and presents it as a self-improvement tool. Its version history names these features:

  • generated images of what you would look like “as a 10/10”, with its own in-app purchase
  • daily routines and progress pictures
  • personal coaches
  • colour analysis scanning
  • group scanning

The listing says Umax doesn’t offer medical advice. What the analysis measures and how the rating is calculated is not stated on its listing or its website.

The app is free to download, but the description says “analysis results require subscription. Additional scans require additional purchase.” These were the in-app purchases on the US App Store:

Weekly Premium$3.99, $4.99, $6.99, $9.99
Monthly Premium$9.99, $12.99, $24.99
Supercharge$3.99
You as a 10/10$6.99

The listing doesn’t say which weekly or monthly price you’ll be offered. Umax’s terms add a 3-day free trial for new users, after which your chosen subscription is charged.

What to check before paying

Where your selfie goes

Umax’s privacy policy, last updated 16 October 2023, lists selfies among the information it collects and biometric data among the sensitive information it processes, with your consent or as the law allows. It says its servers are in the United States, that face scans are kept for at most one year, and that data may be shared with data analytics and data storage providers. On the App Store privacy label, which Apple notes comes from the developer and isn’t verified, Umax declares photos or videos, usage data and advertising data as collected but not linked to you, and usage data as used to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

Renewal and cancelling

You pay through the Apple App Store. Umax’s terms say recurring charges continue until you cancel and that a cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid term. On an iPhone you cancel in Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions, then the subscription.

Refunds

Umax’s terms say “All purchases are non-refundable.” Because the payment goes through Apple, you can still ask Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides, and its support page says eligibility varies by country or region.

How Face Analysis Lab differs

At a glance (checked 2026-10-14)

Your faceSelfie collected, face scans kept up to a yearMeasured on your device, never uploaded
PayingWeekly or monthly subscription, plus extras$14.99 once, nothing renews
MethodNot stated on its listing or sitePublished in full
  • Nothing is uploaded. The face model runs in your browser, and camera frames and photos are measured there. We never receive an image, a landmark or a score. The privacy page walks through each step.
  • One payment, no subscription. The free result is a real score. The Full Face Report is $14.99, paid once, with no account to create.
  • A published formula. Every component, weight and step from measurement to score is on the methodology page, along with what we can’t measure.
  • More than a selfie. The 30-second camera scan captures your face front-on, turned left and right, and tilted up and down. From the turns, the report measures your jaw angle, chin and nose projection and nose-to-lip angle, each with how much it varied between frames.
  • Refunds and age. If the report doesn’t load or something is wrong with it, email us within 14 days for a refund (see the terms). Scanning and buying are for people aged 18 and over.

The trade-offs are real. We don’t generate images of you, run daily routines or coaching, or keep progress pictures. Because we keep nothing, the report stays unlocked for 24 hours in the browser you paid with, and you save it as a PDF to keep it. The sample report shows exactly what you get.

Which one to pick

  • Umax fits better if you want an iPhone app with daily routines, progress pictures and coaches, or a generated image of a changed version of yourself, and you’re comfortable with your selfie leaving your phone and a weekly or monthly subscription.
  • Face Analysis Lab fits better if you’re on Android or a computer, don’t want your face uploaded, want to pay once, or want to know exactly how the score is calculated. Start with the free attractiveness test, the canthal tilt test or the face shape detector.
  • Not sure? Our free result costs nothing and nothing leaves your phone, so try it before you decide on any subscription.
